The Institute of Dermatology was initiated by the Dermatologist Club of Thailand in 1965. On the 5th of September 1968, the Cabinet approved in principle in principle the founding of an Institute of Dermatology in Thailand under the auspices of the Ministry of Public Health's Institute of Dermatology of Thailand project. The intention was to create a dermatology study and research centre specializing in the study and research of tropical dermatology in Thailand, thereby also making better and more effective treatment available to the Thai people.On the 19th of November, 1970, the Minister of Public Health, Police General Prasert Rujirawong laid the foundation stone for the Institute's building. Construction was completed on 18th April 1972 and the Institute became part of the Department of Medical Services, Ministry of Public Health. It opened for service on 5th of February 1972 with Dr. Renoo Kotrajaras as the first director. Dr. Kotrajaras has also been a member of the original group of founders.
